Nowadays, the excessive use of surface water and underground resources has put these resources in jeopardy. A comprehensive management plan is needed to improve feedbacks and maintain the balance and sustainability of water resources. This study was conducted to investigate the stability of groundwater and surface water of Najaf-Abad area. Moreover, to assess the sustainability of water resources in this area, three indicators of water consumption to renewable water (C / RW), available water (WAI) and water stress (WSI) have been used. Accordingly, the ratio of water consumption ratio to renewable water 0.8, available water (WAI) -0.3 and water stress index (WSI) in Najaf Abad range was 1.27. The results of the three index indicate imbalance in supply and demand and eventually indicate intense water stress in the range. In the next step, by determining the changes in the volume of storage, the accuracy of the calculations of the plain was investigated. The MODFLOW was implemented in GMS software with the aim of verifying the results of the sustainability indices. The model was calibrated and validated for the steady state and transient state of 2011-2015. The results of the modeling showed that the long-term drainage of the negative plain and the fraction of the reservoir was -178 MCM, which indicates the coherence of the modeling results and the stability indices. Also, the results indicate that current development in the Najafabad region causes an imbalance of water resources in this area, which will result in the aquifer's instability in the future.
