In this experimental investigation, three geometric configurations of labyrinth weirs were employed sharp-crested, cylindrical, and quarter-cylindrical weirs. To determine the impact of the cycle of a labyrinth weir on hydraulic and hydrodynamic characteristics, two cycles of the weir model were tested. To assess the impact of the geometric parameters of the labyrinth weirs on the flow hydrodynamics, an acoustic velocimeter was used. Turbulence levels upstream of the weirs were calculated in the predetermined grid within the different laboratory models. The findings indicated that the quarter-cylindrical weir exhibited the least amount of backflow (negative velocity) compared to other experimental models, with the cylindrical and sharp-crested weirs following in sequence. Additionally, turbulence profiles at various elevations for the maximum discharge under free-flow conditions revealed that the turbulence intensity upstream of the quarter-cylindrical weir was significantly lower, averaging 21.1% and 28.8% less than that observed in the cylindrical and sharp-crested labyrinth weirs, respectively. Moreover, quadrant analysis outcomes upstream of the labyrinth weir models showed that turbulence transfer upstream of the sharp-crested labyrinth weir weir was predominantly due to velocity fluctuations, with Sweep and Ejection events registering higher values. In contrast, the analysis demonstrated that turbulence upstream of the quarter-cylindrical and cylindrical weir was largely driven by momentum variations, evidenced by elevated values of Inward and Outward events.
