Abstract

Morphological characteristics of the rivers, due to their dynamic characteristics, are always subject to changes, and these changes can have negative effects on the structures constructed on the coasts of the rivers, agricultural lands, and so on. In this research, the morphological changes in the part of the Des river, between Ishan Sakhi village and the Band-e-ghir in Khuzestan province, using Landsat series images of MSS, ETM + and OLI sensors during 1974, 2000, 2009, 2015 and 2019 Was investigated. In this research, after digitizing the images and extracting the river plan, the parameters and effective morphological parameters were determined in 5 spatial and temporal regions of the study area. The results showed that in all studied intervals, the river had a sinus state and the average values of the radius of the river increased from 1036 to 1252 meters during 1974 to 2019, respectively. The central angle of curvature of the Dez River has also reached the highest percentage (from 58 to 67%) in 2019 and has been developed into a meandering pattern. Also, over the past 45 years, at all intervals, the mean value of the relative radius of 4.08 in 1974 reached its lowest value of 3.19 in 2019, which indicates a severe erosion of the outer coasts of the bend and sedimentation in The inner bend is in this interval.
