Abstract

side weirs are among the flow control structures that are widely used in irrigation and drainage networks and urban wastewater collection systems, as well as for flood control. This structure is built in the wall of the main channel and when the water level is higher than the level of the overflow crown, it passes the excess water over it. The flow on these types of weirs is a spatially variable flow with a decrease in flow rate. In the current research, the effect of the presence of flexible rubber roughness in different heights and thicknesses and also in different froud numbers in the main channel, the flow discharge coefficient and the profile of the side weir the rectangular sharp edge were investigated. The results showed that the flexible rubber roughness placed in the main channel causes the amount of flow passing through the side weir to increase by 17.92% on average. and the maximum increase for the roughness of flexible rubber with a height of 13 cm and a thickness of 5 mm is 60%. and the profile of the water level has become more uniform and also, flexible rubber roughness with a thickness of 5 mm has the best performance on average.
