Abstract

Iran is one of the dry countries with limited water resources. Considering the limitation of water resources and meeting the increasing need of water demand in the country such as population growth, food security, improvement of health level, industrial development and environmental protection, it is necessary to establish the basis of consumption control and management of water resources with demand management. Improve the use of water resources by determining the economic factors affecting it. In this regard, in this research, in order to improve the efficiency of water resources consumption in the country, by using the spatial Durbin panel model, the economic factors affecting the efficiency of water resources consumption in 31 provinces of Iran during the period of 2010-2020 have been investigated. The results of variables of water resource utilization and degree of openness have The economy of each province and agricultural water consumption have had a positive and significant effect on the efficiency of water resources consumption by 0.02, 0.31 and 0.04 respectively. While the variables of water resources per capita and research and development in the province have had a negative and significant effect on the efficiency of water resources consumption in the province by 0.05 and 0.09, respectively, The effects of total short-term and long-term spatial spillover of the degree of openness of each province's economy on the efficiency of water resource consumption are positive and significant, and its elasticity is lower in the short-term than in the long-term. With According to the results, it is suggested to the policy makers that by diversifying the use of water resources, providing the necessary platforms and infrastructures, and moving the provinces in order to discover between and use and use the methods. So, New irrigation methods in the agricultural sector improve the efficiency of water resources consumption.
