English

To investigate the interaction effects of irrigation strategies and nitrogen levels on yield, selected fruit quality characteristics, leaf relative chlorophyll index, and irrigation water productivity of limequat, a factorial experiment was conducted in a randomized complete block design with three replications under greenhouse conditions. Irrigation treatments included full irrigation (FI), regulated deficit irrigation supplying 75 and 50% of crop water requirements (DI75 and DI50), and partial root-zone drying supplying 100, 75, and 50% of crop water requirements (PRD100, PRD75, and PRD50). Nitrogen levels consisted of 50, 75, and 100 g of pure nitrogen per tree per month supplied as ammonium nitrate. Fruit number, average fruit weight, fruit yield, irrigation water productivity, leaf relative chlorophyll index (SPAD), total soluble solids (TSS), titratable acidity (TA), and TSS/TA ratio were measured. Analysis of variance showed that the main effects of irrigation and nitrogen, as well as their interaction, were significant for fruit number, average fruit weight, fruit yield, irrigation water productivity, SPAD, TSS, and TSS/TA ratio, whereas the interaction effect of irrigation and nitrogen on titratable acidity was not significant. The highest fruit yield was obtained under the FI×N100 treatment, reaching 73 kg tree⁻¹, accompanied by 1520 fruits tree⁻¹, an average fruit weight of 48 g, and an SPAD value of 59. The PRD50×N100 treatment produced 70.9 kg tree⁻¹, which was not significantly different from FI×N100, and achieved the highest irrigation water productivity of 61.3 kg m⁻³. The highest TSS (10.2 °Brix) and TSS/TA ratio (7.48) were also recorded under PRD50×N100. Overall, FI×N100 was suitable for achieving maximum yield, whereas PRD50×N100 was more effective in improving irrigation water productivity while maintaining yield under water-limited conditions. The PRD50×N100 treatment, which produced 97.1% of the yield obtained under FI×N100, can therefore be considered a suitable strategy for sustainable limequat production under greenhouse conditions.
