In recent years, system dynamics has been used as one management approach to simulate water resource systems. In this study, we tried to simulate the water resources in the Molla Sadra Dam basin (in the north of Fars province and south of Iran) by system dynamics. For this purpose, subsystems of economic, groundwater level changes, groundwater volume changes, surface water, and the whole system were investigated in the VENSIM software. Simulation of the performance of upstream and downstream aquifers of the area and Mulla Sadra Dam reservoir was investigated during the years 2008 to 2019. The 12 different scenarios were presented for this purpose. In Scenario 11, replacing rice with sesame raised the income of the downstream farmers in the Molla Sadra Dam by 54%. The farmers downstream of Mulla Sadra Dam will make about 114 million per year (in this scenario). In this scenario, we can still farm the lower areas of Mulla Sadra dam but with less water.
